Originally Ayia Napa was a small fishing village, now it is known for its wonderful beaches and superb nightlife. The town is situated next to Cape Greko in the south east of the island. Despite the development into a cosmopolitan tourist destination, many of it’s inhabitants still enjoy the traditional occupations including fishing and farming.

There are several beaches with beautiful turquoise waters; one of the most popular with the younger crowd is Nissi Bay. Its Located 3 kilometers west of the town center with bars, live music and regular party games. Macronissos Beach is popular with the locals, it is made up of three bays and is sheltered from the wind.

Places of interest include the Macronissos Tombs where nineteen burial chambers have been excavated; these tombs were used in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The Marine Life Museum is also is also very interesting, it exhibits past and present marine life and is located in Ayia Napa’s Town Hall. There are also Monasteries to visit including the 16th-century Venetian monastery in the center of the town.

Dining out is very popular with many restaurants to chose from, many offer the Cypriot “meze” which consists of 15-30 traditional island dishes. There are also countless French, Italian and Chinese cuisines to choose from. Tourist Favorites include Los Bandidos; a very popular Mexican restaurant and the Japanese Sapporo for fabulous sushi. The hundreds of bars light up the town after dark, some of the hot spots include Bedrock for karaoke, The Heaven Rock Garden for past a present rock music. There are many bars in the center for the younger party tourists which either play house or r&b music, they are all open until 2am. Then the nightclubs open and finish around 5-6am.

There are many hotels to choose from in Ayia Napa, ranging from 2 star with basic amenities, up to 5 star luxury resorts. One of the most exclusive is Aeneas Hotel, which is situated adjacent to Nissi Bay. For young party people the Napa Plaza Hotel in the center of town is a great choice. The Tasia Maris Beach Hotel is very popular with older travelers.
